| Grandma Berrie was born in Thomasville, Georgia in 1921. She was a twin and the 15th child of a family that was eventually 18 in all. She grew up on a country farm where her family made their living. Most, practically all, of the children worked on the farm while Grandma Berrie's mother, Lessie, sold their home grown and canned vegetables, fruit, honey, jams, cakes, candy, meats, and other goods door to door. Many even came to Grandma Berrie's home to buy their quality goods. Grandma Berrie and her family developed a reputation for their quality, kindness, and service. |

Grandma Berrie moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1930 where she lived on a farm and continued to use her skills of "living off the land". Any surplus was sold or canned and put away for the winter. She had the reputation of not only feeding her own family but others as well. Not for profit, but to just to see people happy and enjoying the great taste of home cooking. Everyone in town knew where to go to get the best canned pickles, tomatoes, golden corn, peas, okra, potatoes, and much, much more. You name it, Grandma Berrie grew it.
Grandma Berrie's cousins where commercial fisherman who would bring over hundreds of pounds of shrimp, mullet, and whiting that she would prepare, clean, weigh and put away in portioned bags so that her family and extended family of friends would have meals to pull from the deep freezer. |
If there is one thing you could say about Grandma Berrie it would be that she would give you her "shirt off her back". She married Forrest Berrie in 1942 who was a soldier in World War II. After the war was over, he retired from the army and returned to Jacksonville where he lived with his wife and farmed the land that she still lives on today. She is the only living sibling of the 18 original children of the Daughtry farming family. She continues to farm her land and cook to this very day.
Grandma Berrie is known for her quality, service and southern hospitality that stands unmatched, to this day. She stands by her products and service, 100% "GARRONTEED"! She is excited about this Internet "thing" because she can now serve her friends (that is what she calls her customers) all across the world, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! Welcome to Grandma Berrie's! And, please don't forget to send those "e-letters" Grandma just loves to get them! |
